Tackling Indigenous Smoking
Community-led health promotion helping reduce tobacco use across the Torres Strait.
About This Programme
Health promotion that reaches the whole community
The Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) program aims to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by reducing the prevalence of tobacco use through population health promotion — a key feature of tobacco control recommended by the World Health Organization. TIS is managed and funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care’s Preventive Health and Communicable Disease Section (First Nations Health).
Our priority groups are pregnant women, people who smoke in remote areas, and young people.
